Texas Self-Taught Driver Education Online

Teens ages 14 to 17 can complete Texas driver education 100% online with this self-guided course. Approved by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), the Self-Taught Driver Education program satisfies the driver ed requirement for a Texas learner's permit. You'll learn about traffic laws, defensive driving techniques, safely sharing the road and more.

After completing the first six hours of the course, teens 15 and up can take the official permit exam online. Upon completing the exam, which is included with the course, students will receive a Texas Driver Education Certificate (DE-964). Bring this certificate and other required documents to a driver license office when you're ready to apply for your permit.
